Constitution of the Promoting Council

On 27 March 2001, the Saló de Cent in Barcelona Town Hall saw the constitution of the Promoting Council of the Gaudí International Year. The event was attended and supported by more than one hundred institutions, entities and private representatives.

It was opened by Joan Clos, Mayor of Barcelona, and included speeches by Ferran Mascarell, Culture Councillor of Barcelona Town Council, and Daniel Giralt-Miracle, General Curator of the Gaudí International Year. Moreover, those speaking in representation of the people and institutions present were Josep Comellas, Mayor of Santa Coloma de Cervelló; Joan Mur, Senior Member of the Catalan College of Architects and representative of the International Union of Architects; Antoni Serra Ramoneda, President of Fundació Caixa Catalunya; Manuel Montobbio, Director of the Secretariat State Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Inés Argüelles, Managing Director of Co-operation and Cultural Communication of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports; and Jordi Vilajoana, Culture Councillor of the Catalan Government. The Mayor closed the event inviting the enthusiastic participation of the citizens in the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Antoni Gaudí’s birth.

The Promoting Council, formed with the aim of uniting efforts in the promotion of Gaudí’s work, is open to all those entities, associations, companies and people interested in preserving and popularising the architect’s work.
